Garage Cleanup Tips For many of us, a garage is simply a place to throw all of our unwanted junk, and many of us have garages that are so cluttered that no car can enter. It is possible, however, to create a garage you can be proud of, even one you can show off to friends and neighbors.

Have a Vision

As with any room of the house, creating a garage you can be proud of starts with having a vision. Be sure to picture in your mind your dream garage. Picture what you want your garage to look like, and then get to work on making it happen.

When implementing your vision of a dream garage, be sure to avoid making excuses. After all, we all make excuses for why we cannot get organized. It is important to avoid letting those excuses put off organizing the garage. It may be necessary to go through the garage ruthlessly, throwing out all that useless junk that has accumulated. Perhaps you could even have a garage sale, and make some money while getting rid of all those unwanted and unneeded items.

Take the Time

We all have busy lives today, and between work, school, errands and shuttling the kids to soccer practice it can seem like there is no time left to work on organizing the perfect garage. It is important, however to make the time, as having a showplace garage, or just one that is not an eyesore, is a worthy goal.

Before you get started it is important to gather the tools you will need. When it comes to getting organized, two things you can never have too many of are shelving and hooks. Shelves can be made simply and inexpensively by purchasing a supply of shelving hooks and using simple sheets of wood, cut to size, as the shelves. Putting up a selection of different sized hooks around the perimeter of the garage is the perfect way to get all those big bulky items, like folding chairs, hoses, rakes, shovels and the like, off the floor and on the walls. Simple and inexpensive coat hooks work great as garage organizers. A selection of empty boxes is another vital tool to getting the garage organized. Often these boxes can be had free of charge by simply visiting a local office or retail store. Ask the store manager or office manager if you can take their unwanted boxes off their hands. It is a win-win situation – you get the storage boxes you need at no cost to you, and the business or retail store has less to put out with the trash.

No one ever said that organizing the garage of your dreams would be easy, but when the job is done you will have a garage you can be proud of, and one where you can actually park your car.
